The Miami Dolphins Kick Off With a New Software Solution
The Miami Dolphins are one of the premier NFL franchises, and the only team in its history to remain unbeaten and untied for an entire season, including the Super Bowl.
Business Challenge
The Dolphins relied on a UNIX based system for their basic accounting functions. Although the system served its purpose for many years, the Dolphins had outgrown its capabilities which were limited allowing only manual data analysis from hardcopy reports. Dolphin’s management decided they required a new system, one that could help them streamline their operations, allow for on the fly data analysis and provide them with real-time access to their information. Their key criteria for selecting a new solution included a well established product with a low total cost of ownership and a world-class implementation and support organization.
Solution
Solutions@MBAF implemented a Microsoft Business Solution using SQL server technology which enhanced their data management functions, provided better, faster access to information and substantial reporting and analysis capabilities. The functionalities of “Smart Lists” (an inquiry tool within Great Plains that provides on the fly access to any data and easily exports to Excel) have simplified account reconciliation and journal entry preparations for the team. Even the unique requirements of the player payroll for a professional sports franchise were simplified through the Microsoft Great Plains payroll module.
